UK Manufacturer Introduces New Military Drones: Rugged ISR Platforms Inspired by Battlefield Lessons and Built for Harsh Environments

Evolve Dynamics Launches Two Tactical UAS Platforms

This week, as Europe marked the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, British drone manufacturer Evolve Dynamics introduced two new military drones: Foxe and Wolfe. The announcement took place at a commemorative event in Hampshire, UK, honoring veterans from the Royal British Legion.

Foxe and Wolfe were developed with direct input from battlefield use, including operational insights gained from deployments in Ukraine. These systems are designed to meet the real-world needs of modern warfighters, with improved durability, rapid deployment features, and enhanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.

According to Evolve Dynamics CEO Tom Redman, “The launch of Foxe and Wolfe represents a significant milestone in achieving this mission. Born from a deep understanding of the critical needs within the defence sector, and drawing upon our battle-tested experience, these UAS platforms embody our commitment to British innovation, rugged design, and exceptional performance in the most demanding conditions.”

Foxe: Lightweight ISR at the Tactical Edge

Named after Arctic explorer Luke Foxe, the Foxe is a sub-250 gram hand-launchable drone. Built for fast-paced operations, it delivers immediate ISR with minimal setup.

Evolve Dynamics Foxe

Key features of Foxe include:

  • Weather resistance: Operates in winds up to 15.5 m/s (35 mph) and in rain (IP54 rated).

  • Wide temperature range: Functions in temperatures from -20°C to +55°C.

  • Extended endurance: Offers 35 minutes of flight time.

  • Rapid deployment: Ready to fly in under 90 seconds.

  • Electronic warfare (EW) resilience: Uses frequency-hopping radios for stable communication in contested zones.

  • User-friendly controls: Designed for quick learning and intuitive use by non-specialist personnel.

  • Field repairable: Components can be fixed on-site for repeated use in rugged terrain.

The Foxe system is intended for use at the tactical edge, where speed, agility, and resilience are critical.

Wolfe: Rugged and Persistent for Extended Missions

Wolfe, named after General James Wolfe, is a larger sub-4 kg UAS engineered for long-duration operations. With 60 minutes of flight time and the ability to operate in sustained winds of up to 20 m/s (45 mph), it is tailored for missions that demand persistent surveillance and stable performance.

Key features of Wolfe include:

  • All-weather durability: IP55 rated for rain, dust, and salt exposure.

  • Hot-swappable power: Enables continuous operation, including multi-day missions with the optional Infinity Tether.

  • Modular construction: Field-repairable and built for long-term use.

  • Low acoustic signature: Designed for stealth in covert operations.

  • Advanced optics: Dual-camera 3-axis gimbal allows for high-definition imaging from a safe distance.

  • Portable design: Lightweight and backpack-deployable, ready in under 90 seconds.

UK Manufacturing with Combat-Proven Insight

Both systems were designed and built in the UK. They incorporate technologies developed and refined through the deployment of Evolve Dynamics’ earlier platforms, including those used in Ukraine.

Redman added, “At Evolve Dynamics our mission is to push the boundaries of uncrewed systems to create a safer world, including equipping front line users with the most reliable and effective tools to ensure their safety and mission success.”

With the launch of Foxe and Wolfe, Evolve Dynamics is expanding its lineup of tactical UAS designed for real-world conditions, contributing to a growing ecosystem of British defense technology.
