Urban Air Mobility Market: $9 Billion by 2030?

February 25, 2021 by Miriam McNabb 17 Comments

urban air mobility marketWill the urban air mobility market be worth $9 Billion by 2030?  A new research report predicts that it will – has a few more surprise predictions about the segment.
The report “Urban Air Mobility Market by Component (Infrastructure, Platform), Platform Operation (Piloted, Autonomous), Range (Intercity, Intracity), Platform Architecture, Unmanned Platform Systems, End User and Region – Global Forecast to 2030” says that the market is poised to grow from USD 2.6 billion in 2020 to USD 9.1 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 13.5% from 2020 to 2030. “The increasing demand for an alternative mode of transportation in urban mobility for commercial applications and technological innovations in unmanned technology are the major factors driving the market,” says the report summary.
The report also predictst that Europe, not Asia, will lead the market. “Countries in this region, such as Germany, UK, and France, are investing heavily in the development and procurement of advanced eVTOL systems for commercial operations,” says the report.  “Advancements in the manufacturing capability of emerging economies in this region will drive the market.”   Certainly, Europe has played a critical role in discussions of smart cities.
While companies like EHang are already seeing a lot of interest in their stock, the report suggests that the infrastructure segment – vertiports, charging stations, air traffic management facilities, and maintenance sites – will be the fasted growing segment in the market.  Researchers say that this is in part due to the fact that they see the interest in air mobility solutions for intercity transportation outpacing interest for intracity transportation.  Unmanned cargo transport could also take a significant part in the arena of transportation between cities.
Finally, avionics will be a market segment that gets a boost from the urban air mobility market.  “The avionics segment is estimated to lead from 2025 to 2030 owing to increasing developments in platform avionics systems from remotely piloted aircraft to fully autonomous aircraft,” says the summary. “For full autonomy, a suite of sophisticated avionics systems act as an integral part of the platform.”
