EagleNXT Reintroduces MicaSense RedEdge-MX Multispectral Sensor

July 31, 2026 by staff 2 Comments

The Texas-built sensor returns with updated hardware, DLS 2 light-sensor support and field-proven use in wheat fertilizer and fungicide research.

AgEagle Aerial Systems, Inc. (dba EagleNXT) has reintroduced the MicaSense RedEdge-MX multispectral sensor, the company announced July 29, 2026. The Allen, Texas-based company (NYSE: UAVS) will assemble the sensor at a newly installed, dedicated production cell in Allen. The relaunched sensor targets precision agriculture, environmental monitoring and research customers.

RedEdge-MX design and features

The RedEdge-MX ships in a metallic enclosure built for harsh field conditions. The multispectral bands support standard vegetation indices including NDVI and NDRE. An optional DLS 2 light sensor provides calibrated reflectance measurements. The sensor works with a wide range of drones and integrates with EagleNXT’s processing and analytics workflows.

“We have always prioritized listening to the voice of the customer,” said Bill Irby, CEO of EagleNXT. “As the sensor market grows, we will continue to provide the solutions for today’s sensor market. This includes our advanced version of the popular, effective, user-friendly RedEdge-MX.”

AGRON wheat trials with the RedEdge-MX

AGRON is a Hungarian agricultural imagery analytics and drone services company. The team used the RedEdge-MX to monitor wheat fertilizer and fungicide applications, according to an EagleNXT case study. In the fertilizer trial, AGRON collected seven datasets from 15 wheat species. The team paired the RedEdge-MX with a Soil Plant Analysis Development (SPAD) chlorophyll meter. Treatments ran from 0 to 280 kilograms per hectare (about 250 pounds per acre) in 40 kilogram steps. The sensor data supported development of the AGRON Chlorophyll Index. A separate fungicide trial covered 186 plots across winter wheat, spelt, triticale, barley and durum wheat. RedEdge-MX chlorophyll maps identified powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis) infection focal points. The maps separated resistant plots from susceptible ones.

“Feedback from our global user base clearly shows strong demand for the return of the RedEdge-MX,” said Erik de Badts, Director and Global Head of MicaSense Sales at EagleNXT. “Bringing this impactful sensor back, updated for today’s technology while maintaining the reliability and data quality that made it a favorite for so many years, demonstrates the trust in our family of advanced sensors. The RedEdge-MX is a rugged, built-to-last, professional multispectral sensor, featuring a metallic enclosure for extreme durability. It captures the spectral bands required for basic crop health indexes and additional bands needed for advanced analytics and comes with the new DLS 2 light sensor.”

The RedEdge-MX is now available through EagleNXT’s global network of authorized dealers and partners.
