Gremsy and Nokia Announce Partnership to Enhance Drone Networks

June 30, 2025 by Miriam McNabb Leave a Comment

New Integrated Payload Solutions Aim to Advance Industrial and Public Safety Drone Operations

Gremsy, a leader in gimbal and payload systems, has announced a new global technology partnership with Nokia. The companies will deliver integrated VIO and ORUS-L payloads for the Nokia Drone Networks platform. This partnership aims to provide advanced drone solutions for industrial and public safety uses.

Combining Strengths for Mission-Critical Operations

Gremsy’s precision-engineered imaging systems will now work seamlessly with Nokia Drone Networks. The combined solution is designed to support a wide range of applications, including infrastructure inspection, industrial surveillance, tactical response, and Drones as a First Responder (DFR) deployments.

The new payloads—VIO and ORUS-L—bring advanced electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) capabilities to the Nokia Drone Networks platform. These payloads offer real-time video streaming, AI-powered features, and reliable mission performance over secure 4G and 5G networks. The integration is expected to be available in the second half of 2025.

Features of the VIO and ORUS-L Payloads

  • ORUS-L: A rugged, AI-powered 3-axis gimbal designed for long-endurance drones and robots. It includes onboard AI, sensor fusion, and a multi-sensor suite. Key features are 4K EO with 30x zoom, night vision, thermal imaging, and a laser rangefinder. This makes it ideal for inspection, public safety, and tactical operations.

  • VIO: A compact EO/IR payload suitable for mapping, inspection, and safety missions. It offers thermal and optical zoom, high-sensitivity temperature detection (≤50 mK), a 3000-meter laser rangefinder, and AI features such as object detection and auto-zoom.

Nokia Drone Networks: A Secure, Connected Drone-in-a-Box Solution

Nokia Drone Networks is a turnkey drone-in-a-box system that uses 4G and 5G connectivity. The platform is designed for industrial and public safety use. It allows for autonomous drone operations, remote control, and real-time data transmission. The system supports a wide range of payloads and is built with open architecture for easy integration.

According to Nokia, the Drone Networks solution is already used in over 20 countries for tasks such as public safety, search and rescue, and critical infrastructure inspection. The system is designed to be robust, secure, and scalable, making it suitable for demanding environments. Nokia’s focus on open payload ecosystems allows partners like Gremsy to add new capabilities and expand the platform’s use cases.

Early Demonstrations and Future Plans

The companies have already started international demonstrations of the integrated solution in early 2025. These showcases highlight the system’s readiness for real-world operations. The partnership supports a range of mission-critical applications and will continue to develop new drone and payload solutions together.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chu, Vice Director at Gremsy, said, “This partnership is more than technical compatibility—it’s about readiness for real-world missions. By integrating VIO and ORUS L into Nokia Drone Networks, we’re enabling high-performance, connected drone systems for inspection, situational awareness, and DFR operations worldwide.”

Thomas Eder, Head of Embedded Wireless at Nokia, added, “It’s incredibly important for Nokia to collaborate with a partner like Gremsy. Their best-in-class payloads are a critical part of our strategy to build a future-proof, open payload ecosystem for Nokia Drone Networks. We’re especially excited about how these integrations will unlock massive potential in AI-powered analytics and open up entirely new market segments—from public safety and critical infrastructure to industrial automation and beyond.”

About the Companies

Nokia is a global leader in B2B technology innovation. The company develops networks that sense, think, and act, and is known for its work in mobile, fixed, and cloud networks. Nokia’s open architectures allow for seamless integration with partners and new digital services.

Gremsy manufactures high-performance gimbal and imaging payload systems for drones. The company is known for precision and modularity, serving industries such as public safety, energy, inspection, and mapping.

Looking Ahead

The partnership between Gremsy and Nokia marks a significant step in advancing drone technology for critical industries. With the integration of advanced imaging payloads and secure, connected drone platforms, both companies are set to deliver solutions that meet the needs of modern industrial and public safety operations. The first integrated payloads are expected to be available in the second half of 2025, with further joint developments planned for the future.
