DoorDash and Flytrex Launch Drone Delivery in Dallas-Fort Worth

June 26, 2025 by Miriam McNabb 1 Comment

Expanded partnership brings all-day drone delivery to over 100,000 residents with industry-leading payload capacity

DoorDash and Flytrex Expand Drone Deliveries Across North Texas

DoorDash and Flytrex have officially launched their drone delivery service in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The service builds on a successful pilot program and now serves parts of Little Elm and Frisco. More locations in the metroplex are expected to follow.

Residents can now order food from local and national restaurants—including Papa John’s and The Brass Tap—from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Orders are flown directly to customers’ homes using Flytrex’s autonomous drone fleet. According to the companies, the service currently reaches more than 30,000 households and over 100,000 residents.

A New Level of Access and Convenience

This rollout is Flytrex’s first integration with a third-party app, allowing customers to place drone orders through the DoorDash platform. During checkout, eligible users can select drone delivery for participating restaurants.

Flytrex’s drones can carry up to 6.6 pounds of food, the highest payload capacity in the region. A next-generation version of the drone is expected to increase that limit to 8.8 pounds.

“The next phase of drone delivery is all about convenience, driven by expanded capabilities that unlock a broader range of use cases,” said Harrison Shih, Head of Product for DoorDash Labs. “Larger payloads and longer operating hours allow us to serve more customers, more efficiently, than ever before. By expanding the operational envelope of autonomous delivery, we’re moving closer to making drone delivery a scalable, reliable option for everyday local commerce.”

Meeting the Needs of Suburban Families

For Flytrex, the focus is on giving suburban households a fast, contactless option that fits into busy lives.

“Drone delivery offers suburban families exactly what they’re looking for: speed, affordability, and convenience,” said Yariv Bash, CEO and co-founder of Flytrex. “Your food arrives hot or cold as intended, and you get contactless delivery right to your backyard. For busy families juggling work and activities, it’s a game-changer that fits perfectly into your daily routine.”

The pilot program completed over 1,000 drone deliveries, showing high adoption and satisfaction from users. Flytrex has also developed automated systems for drone traffic control, enabling multiple operators to fly in shared suburban airspace safely and efficiently.

Community Engagement and Future Growth

Beyond individual deliveries, Flytrex’s service includes drop-off points at public and community areas. The company has taken part in local STEM events and partnered with small businesses, offering a new channel for customer delivery.

This collaboration is the latest effort from DoorDash Labs, the company’s automation division. DoorDash Labs explores how robotics and drone technology can improve the customer experience, support local merchants, and expand opportunities for human delivery partners, known as Dashers.

About the Companies

DoorDash (NASDAQ: DASH) is a global local commerce platform operating in more than 30 countries. Since 2013, the company has connected consumers with neighborhood businesses while offering flexible earning options and driving local economies.

Flytrex is a U.S.-based leader in drone delivery with more than 200,000 flights completed. The company specializes in affordable, last-mile solutions for suburban areas and continues to grow its operations in Texas, North Carolina, and beyond.

Looks like Granbury is going to be short on food deliveries because of 377–144 highway construction. I was a customer of yours 4/5 times a week but then you were gone now I have to cook to bad so sad.
