Is your week droning on? Fear not! To get over the end-of-the-week-slump, check out these videos of cool ways people are using UAS all over the world.
1) One of the key features of UAVs as they become more and more common is going to be automatic safety protocols. For example, DJI has built a ‘Return to Home‘ feature into its Phantom line that forces a drone to return to its point of takeoff (calculated by GPS coordinates) if it loses contact with its controller.
It’s one of those things you don’t ever really want to test for fear of something going wrong, but you are super glad it works as advertised when you need it to. As was the case with YouTube user James Duckworth.
2) Yesterday we published a piece called 5 Drone-Specific Events for Japan’s 2020 Robot Olympics and (spoilers) one of those events was racing. There are plenty of different kinds of potential drone races, but an obstacle course would probably be the most fun to watch.
As evidence for that claim, I submit this video:
Also, I fully expect to see something like this as a set piece for the next Toy Story movie.
3) Last weekend the nerds of the world (and I use the term lovingly) descended on San Diego for Comic-Con. DJI said they were going to be giving flying lessons as part of a promotion for FOX’s hit TV show 24: Live Another Day, but they didn’t say anything about joining the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones on the TV Magazine yacht!
Special guest appearance from DJI’s Eric Cheng.
