Wingcopter Secures New Funding and Strengthens Leadership Team

June 30, 2025 by Miriam McNabb 1 Comment

Fresh capital and new executives set to boost global drone operations

Wingcopter, a leading German drone technology company, secures new funding from Copenhagen-based Nordic Secondary Fund, as well as existing shareholders and the European Investment Bank. The latest investment will support Wingcopter’s growth, including progress toward type certification for delivery drones in the US, Brazil, and Japan, and expansion into drone-based surveying of critical infrastructure using LiDAR technology.

Supporting Global Expansion

Founded in 2017 by Tom Plümmer, Jonathan Hesselbarth, and Ansgar Kadura, Wingcopter has grown into a major European player in unmanned systems. With this funding, the company aims to accelerate mass production of its main product, the Wingcopter 198, and strengthen its presence in global markets. The company is also pushing forward in the field of aerial data collection with high-end laser scanning.

To lead this next phase, Wingcopter has added experienced leaders to its executive team. Dr. Bernhard Klumpp, who brings decades of general management and production scaling experience from roles at Continental, joins as Co-CEO and Chief Product Officer. He now shares leadership with Co-CEO Tom Plümmer and CTO Jonathan Hesselbarth.

Tobias Jordan joins as Chief Financial Officer. Jordan spent 21 years in technology investment banking at Credit Suisse and later helped grow electric mobility startup Dance as CFO.

Tom Plümmer, Co-Founder and Co-CEO at Wingcopter, stated, “Europe needs technology champions more than ever. With the new financing and strengthening of our leadership team, we look to the future with confidence, firmly believing that we have the potential to become such a champion and bring this potential to full fruition together. Both Bernhard and Tobias have invaluable knowledge and experience in scaling companies – Bernhard in the industrial environment, Tobias on the financial side. Having laid a solid foundation over the past few years, we will now literally rise to new heights from this launchpad.”

Backing Innovation and Sustainability

Peter Sandberg, Founding Partner and Managing Director at Nordic Secondary Fund, shared his excitement about the investment. “We are excited to partner with Wingcopter as we share the team’s vision to drive meaningful change. By enabling sustainable instant deliveries and the efficient inspection of critical infrastructure through aerial laser scanning, Wingcopter addresses two rapidly growing markets with the same multi-purpose platform. Developing high-tech drone technology in Europe to tackle critical challenges for global customers not only demonstrates technical excellence but also makes an important contribution to a stronger and more sustainable European future.”

Wingcopter specializes in developing, manufacturing, and operating all-electric uncrewed aircraft systems. The company’s mission is to improve and save lives by offering scalable, sustainable, and safe drone technology. Their main model, the Wingcopter 198, uses a patented tilt-rotor mechanism and custom software to transition seamlessly between vertical take-off and efficient long-range flight, even in tough weather conditions.

Wingcopter’s investors include Corecam Capital Partners, DRONE FUND, Expa, Futury Capital, Hessen Kapital III, ITOCHU, Nordic Secondary Fund, REWE Group, Salvia, SYNERJET, XAI technologies, and Xplorer Capital.
