Companies Complete First Fully Automated Counter-Drone Interception in Baltic Region

October 15, 2025 by Ian McNabb Leave a Comment

DefSecIntel Solutions and Origin Robotics completed what they describe as the first fully automated counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) interception demonstration in the Baltic region during a live trial conducted in Latvia. The demonstration integrated DefSecIntel’s EIRSHIELD ultra-short-range C-UAS system with Origin Robotics’ autonomous BLAZE interceptor to engage representative hostile UAV profiles.

The trial validated an automated workflow spanning detection, tracking, AI classification, and terminal engagement against drone targets. According to the companies, the demonstration represents a significant milestone for European counter-drone capabilities.

System Integration and Performance

The integrated platform executed automated handovers between system components under controlled rules of engagement. The demonstration workflow included multi-sensor detection and AI-assisted tracking from EIRSHIELD, automated target classification and cueing through command and control layers, and autonomous launch and terminal interception by Origin’s BLAZE system.

“Our joint trial was a success — it demonstrates that turnkey C-UAS platform EIRSHIELD, where detection and identification are tightly integrated with effective effectors, work reliably in realistic conditions,” said Jaanus Tamm, CEO of DefSecIntel Solutions. “By integrating EIRSHIELD’s multi-layer detection, AI-powered C2 with different effectors such as Origin’s autonomous interceptor BLAZE, we can cost-effectively detect hostile drones and neutralise threats, offering operators a practical, scalable solution for border security and critical-infrastructure protection.”

Government Response

Latvian defense officials characterized the demonstration as supporting national security objectives. “Superiority in drone technology is one of the cornerstones of successful defence and deterrence,” said Andris SprÅ«ds, Latvian Minister of Defence.

The Latvian government welcomed the demonstration as evidence of the country’s commitment to testing and adopting counter-drone solutions. The trial took place under government observation with official support for the validation process.

Operational Context

The companies positioned the demonstration as addressing current operational challenges from inexpensive, low-flying drones including loitering munitions. According to DefSecIntel and Origin Robotics, automated multi-layer C-UAS platforms that integrate sensors, AI-assisted command and control, and multiple engagement options are necessary for persistent protection in complex threat environments.

The integrated platform demonstrated capability for rapid deployment and potential scaling across national boundaries. The companies characterized the system as providing both soft-kill and hard-kill engagement options through the coordinated platform.

Technology Components

The EIRSHIELD system provides multi-sensor detection and AI-assisted tracking capabilities, while Origin Robotics’ BLAZE interceptor handles autonomous launch and terminal engagement phases. The integration demonstrates automated handoff procedures between detection, classification, and engagement systems.

The platform executed engagement logic under programmed rules of engagement, demonstrating what the companies describe as reliable target defeat against representative threat profiles under realistic operational conditions.

Future Development

DefSecIntel Solutions and Origin Robotics indicated plans for continued joint trials, interoperability testing, and end-user demonstrations. The companies did not specify timelines or locations for additional testing programs.

The demonstration follows increasing European focus on counter-drone capabilities as unmanned systems proliferate in both commercial and military applications. Baltic states have emphasized drone technology development as part of regional security initiatives.
