UAS manufacturer invests in advanced power technology as industry demand surges
Amprius Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: AMPX) has announced a new purchase order exceeding $35 million for its SiCore® cells from a leading unmanned aerial systems (UAS) manufacturer. The order follows a $15 million commitment earlier this year, underscoring growing demand for high-performance batteries in aviation.
Growing Confidence
The company says its SiCore cells are designed to meet the rigorous requirements of UAS operations, delivering sustained performance from take-off through landing. The advanced cells extend flight times and increase mission range beyond conventional lithium-ion batteries, offering capabilities that align with the next phase of drone development.
“This follow-on order of more than $35 million from an existing customer highlights both the trust we’ve built with leading drone manufacturers and the strong momentum behind our revenue and market share growth,” said Dr. Kang Sun, CEO of Amprius Technologies. “As a leading supplier of silicon anode batteries, we are delivering the performance that enables our customers to meet their most demanding mission profiles. Amprius supports large-scale demand through a global contract manufacturing network, which now totals more than 1.8 GWh of secured capacity. A strategic agreement in South Korea further expands the company’s ability to serve aerospace, defense, and mobility markets.
Batteries at the Center of Industry Change
Battery performance has long been one of the main bottlenecks for drone endurance. As U.S. regulators move toward finalizing rules for flight beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), battery innovation has taken on even greater importance. Longer flights and more complex operations will require power systems capable of supporting extended missions safely and reliably.
At the same time, U.S. policy shifts toward near-shoring and on-shoring supply chains are providing a boost for domestic and allied drone and component companies. This has created new opportunities for manufacturers like Amprius, whose products support both defense and commercial applications.
A Market on the Rise
The global unmanned systems market was valued at $26.6 billion in 2024 and is projected to grow to $48.3 billion by 2030, a compound annual growth rate of 10.5%. UAS represent the largest share of that market, making up more than 57% of revenue. North America accounted for over 45% of global sales in 2024, reflecting strong defense and commercial adoption.
By combining its high-performance silicon anode batteries with established manufacturing partnerships, Amprius is positioning itself as a key supplier to the next generation of electric aviation.
