Remote ID, No Subscription: uAvionix Announces pingRID Broadcast Module for Any Drone

by DRONELIFE Staff Writer Ian M. Crosby

uAvionix has announced the launch of pingRID, a Remote ID Broadcast module for drones.  Compact and easily attached, the aviation-grade transmitter is the quickest and easiest way for drone operators to comply with the FAA’s Part 89 Remote ID standards.

Compliance with Remote ID, No Subscription Required

“The Remote ID rule is a key part of the FAA’s commitment to safely integrate uncrewed aircraft into the National Airspace System and uAvionix is pleased to apply its avionics experience by delivering a product that meets the FAA’s requirements without sacrificing the drone operators’ time or aircraft performance,” said uAvionix CEO Paul Beard, an Academy of Model Aeronautics Hall of Famer. “A license plate for your drone needn’t be complex or require an application to run and with pingRID, you simply charge, attach and fly – it’s that easy.”

The pre-configured pingRID is ready to use upon assigning its unique identification number to the aircraft’s registration with the FAA. LED indicators display the status of the battery charge, device readiness for flight, and inflight operations. The lightweight device fits most aircraft without hampering performance, and it rapidly recharges via USB-C.

Effective on September 16th, 2023, the FAA’s final rule on Remote ID requires all drone pilots to meet the operating requirements of Part 89. In the case of most operators, this will necessitate the use of a drone equipped with Standard Remote ID, a Remote ID Broadcast module like the pingRID, or operating at a Federally Recognized Identification Area (FRIA).
