Percepto Remote Drone Operations: Groundbreaking BVLOS Approval in Israel

Today, leading autonomous inspection solution provider Percepto announced that it has been granted Beyond Visual Line of Site (BVLOS) approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of Israel (CAAI) for the operation of drones at three industrial sites in Israel, including national water company Mekorot at its Eshkol site. This BVLOS approval will allow companies deploying Percepto drones to forgo the use of an observer during operation.

Percepto was able to obtain BVLOS status as a result of the proven reliability of its solution, as well as the accessible, intuitive nature of its Autonomous Inspection and Monitoring (AIM) system, which recently garnered praise from TIME magazine with a listing in their 100 Best Inventions of 2021. The combination of Percepto’s software and autonomous drone-in-a-box solution enables the automatic deployment of drones, increasing efficiency while reducing risks, downtime, and operational costs.

Part of the new advanced framework laid out by Percepto is the introduction of a new designated operator position, the System Operator, specially trained by Percepto and achievable in a significantly shorter timespan than the traditional Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC) designation. Percepto customers in Israel will now be able to remotely deploy drones without the difficult-to-obtain RPIC designation, as well as integrate automated drone programs within a matter of weeks rather than months, drastically increasing the speed and efficiency of operations. Percepto has already made use of these approvals with both short-term proof of concept operations and permanent deployments.

“This advanced framework developed by Percepto and CAAI introduces a new era of drone operations in Israel, and we hope it can set a global standard for other countries to follow,” said Dor Abuhasira, Co-founder and CEO of Percepto. “As a member of the FAA’s BVLOS Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC), Percepto is committed to enabling safe and scalable autonomous drone operations. This latest achievement is another step toward this goal, and our Israeli customers can now more rapidly harness the power of automation to make their sites safer and more efficient.”
