March Public Safety Drone Review

The next edition of the Public Safety Drone Review, a free monthly webcast co-hosted by DRONERESPONDERS and DRONELIFE, will take place on Tuesday, March 3 at 3 p.m. EST. This month’s session will focus on counter-UAS strategy and security planning ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

With major international events drawing global attention and large crowds, airspace awareness and coordinated response planning have become central concerns for public safety agencies. The March program will examine how federal, state, and local partners are preparing for unauthorized drone activity during high-profile events.

Hosts Miriam McNabb, Editor-in-Chief of DRONELIFE, Charles Werner, Director of DRONERESPONDERS, and Tim Martin, DRONERESPONDERS Advisory Board Member and Director of UAS Training at the Regional Training Center, will be joined by featured guests Jared Oren and Mitchell Roberts of the National Urban Security Technology Laboratory. NUSTL operates within the Office of Innovation and Collaboration in the Science and Technology Directorate of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The first half of the webcast will feature curated news and policy updates affecting public safety drone programs nationwide. Discussion will include recent developments in counter-UAS authority, interagency coordination, and operational planning tied to large-scale sporting events.

In the second half, Oren and Roberts will share insight into NUSTL’s role in evaluating counter-UAS technologies, supporting field assessments, and helping agencies understand system capabilities and limitations. The conversation will address how communities hosting World Cup matches can prepare for airspace security challenges while aligning with federal guidance.

  1. AirSentinel Team says

    March 3, 2026 at 11:40 am

A very timely session. As we look toward the 2026 World Cup, the integration of NUSTL’s testing standards with local law enforcement operations is going to be the deciding factor in effective airspace security.

At AirSentinel, we’ve been closely following the DHS guidance on Counter-UAS siting, and it’s clear that ‘Interoperability’ is the keyword for 2026. Detecting a drone is only half the battle; the real challenge for World Cup host cities will be the real-time coordination between federal and local agencies to identify pilot locations instantly. Looking forward to hearing Jared and Mitchell’s take on how field assessments are evolving to meet these high-crowd safety requirements!
