Volansi Defense Subsidiary Joins USAF Skyborg Project [VIDEO]

December 23, 2020 by Miriam McNabb 15 Comments

Volansi defense subsidiaryThe United States Air Force (USAF) has named Volansi defense subsidiary VOLY Defense Solutions (VDS) to the Skyborg Vanguard Program, a collaboration between best of breed aircraft companies and the USAF to develop next generation experimental aircraft.  In a blog post written by Hannan Parvizian, Volansi CEO and Co-Founder, Parvizian says that “the multiple indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract is worth $400 million in subsequent delivery orders.”

Volansi  has made an impact on the drone delivery market this year, demonstrating cargo delivery drones with North Carolina Department of Transportation and in the medical supply space.  The company scored $50 million in funding in September, 2020.

The Skyborg project is an exciting research project in the defense space.  Skyborg is working to put together the capabilities of different industry leaders to “create a family of unmanned aircraft to accomplish a wide range of complex mission sets, including those that are too dangerous for manned aircraft,” writes Parvizian. “This program will increase overall unmanned capabilities and be a force multiplier for the Air Force.

“Instead of awarding a winner-take-all contract, AFLCMC created a pool of competent companies they can rely on to tackle different parts and problems,” said Hannan Parvizian, CEO and Co-Founder of Volansi. “Put these together and the net result will be a portfolio of innovative, state-of-the-art solutions AFLCMC can pull from.”

Taking the skills and strengths of fourteen “best in breed” aviation companies and integrating them into a powerful unmanned systems foundation could be a game changer not only for the airforce – but for the industry.

For Volansi and Volansi defense subsidiary VDS, it’s a big win.  “Working alongside such companies as Boeing, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Kratos Unmanned Aerial Systems and Northrop Grumman, Volansi’s participation in Skyborg could also open the door to new opportunities outside the project,” says Parvizian.

“This is a great chance to bring recognition to our unique defense capabilities,” said Parvizian. “I am confident that our work with Skyborg will allow us to expand our service offering in terms of design, development, and production.”
