National Drone Safety Awareness Week is Nov. 16 – 22, 2020. What Will You Do to Participate?

November 8, 2020 by Miriam McNabb 29 Comments

Next week, November 16-22 2020, is the second annual National Drone Safety Awareness Week.  Sponsored by the FAA, this is a week long opportunity to help create a drone community with high standards of safety and professionalism.  This year’s event is completely virtual – and there are many ways that you and your organization can participate and contribute.  Whether you are an individual drone pilot, a recreational flyer, or part of a large enterprise organization: you can do your part to build up the drone industry.  For more information, check out the National Drone Safety Awareness Week Guidebook and the FAA announcement here.

Each day of the week features a different theme, and there are multiple ways to participate.  If you or your organization has been planning a virtual event – a job fair, training session, recreational fly-in, or other drone related event – register your event on the National Drone Safety event page (dronesafetyawarenessweek.com) to be listed as a participant.  Or, find an event that interests you to attend – there are already lots of great educational opportunities listed.

If photography or art is your interest, check out these two new National Drone Safety Awareness Week events from the FAA:

New for students! Have your artistic depiction of a drone-related theme displayed in the Virtual Student Art Gallery. Review the Submission Themes and Guidelines(PDF). The Virtual Student Art Gallery will be open soon.

New for photographers! Submit your best photo taken by a drone or a photo with a drone to the National Drone Safety Awareness Week Photo Challenge. Review the Submission Guidelines (PDF) and follow us on Instagram to see if your photo is nominated for voting.

Be sure to use the #DroneWeek hashtag in your social media posts, and follow @FAADroneZone on Twitter and Facebook

Building a community of safety in the drone community is critical for full integration of UAS into the NAS.  All stakeholders in the drone industry can do their part to get the word out about drone safety to current and future pilots.  National Drone Safety Awareness week is a great opportunity for everyone interested in drones to  learn from one another.

Need the links again?

  • Find the FAA announcement, graphics and downloads here.
  • Find the Guidebook for participation here, which lists the daily themes of the week.
  • List your event, or find an event to attend here.
