Japanese drone provider Terra Drone Corporation is teaming up with Saudi oil-and-gas inspection firm NDT Corrosion Control Services Co. to form Terra Drone CCS, a venture that will focus on the Middle East market.
With major oil clients such as the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Saudi Aramco, Kuwait Oil Company, and Oman Oil Company, NDT will provide a hefty client base for Terra Drone’s UAV inspection services across the region – not only for oil and gas companies, but also for utilities, urban surveying and telecommunications.
Terra Drone CCS will deploy one of the company’s newest tech branches, Terra Inspectioneering to perform visual and ultrasonic inspections using proprietary drone tech.
L.M. Murugan, Group General Manager, NDT stated:
“Joining forces with Terra Drone will not only add value to our customers, but it would also spark a digital transformation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). By collaborating both companies’ technical expertise and experience, Terra Drone CCS will become a pioneer of emerging technologies like drones, Internet of Things, data analytics, and artificial intelligence in the region.”
Terra Drone CEO Toru Tokushige added :
“Of the many NDT and inspection companies we came across, we were most impressed by the capabilities and track record of NDTCCS. The company is already a market leader in GCC and the best partner we could ask for to serve clients in this region. We look forward to bringing our leading technologies such as Terra UTM, Terra Wing, Terra LiDAR, 4G LTE drones, and our proprietary mapping software Terra Mapper to the region.”
Last month, Terra Drone’s European office announced an agreement to provide drone services to the UK’s national mapping agency, Ordnance Survey. The contract includes services from orthomosaics to digital terrain models (DTM) and digital surface models. Terra Drone Europe plans to survey more than 500 locations using fixed-wing and multi-rotor drones.
More recently, Terra Drone demonstrated an unmanned traffic management (UTM) system developed jointly with drone traffic management firm Unifly.
In May, the Japanese company established Terra Drone Angola after receiving multiple contracts from major oil and gas companies in West Africa.
