Archer Aviation announced on February 27, 2026 that it will integrate Starlink’s low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite internet system into its Midnight electric air taxi aircraft. The collaboration marks Starlink’s first entry into the urban air mobility sector.
Starlink Connectivity in the Midnight eVTOL: Technical Details
Midnight is a piloted eVTOL designed to carry up to four passengers. The aircraft features 12 total engines and propellers with fully redundant systems, targeting safety levels comparable to commercial airliners. Operations take place at approximately 1,500 feet altitude in urban environments, where cellular coverage is often unreliable.
Starlink’s LEO satellite constellation differs from traditional aviation connectivity solutions that rely on ground towers or geostationary satellites. The LEO architecture delivers consistent, high-bandwidth coverage at low flight altitudes — characteristics uniquely suited to short-range urban air taxi routes. Going forward, Archer plans to use the connectivity for three distinct functions: passenger internet access, pilot-to-ground communications, and engineering team data links.
Autonomous Aircraft Development on the Roadmap
In future, Archer and Starlink plan to develop a connectivity solution to support Archer’s future autonomous aircraft programs. Midnight’s targeted city-crossing flight times run between 5 and 15 minutes, requiring stable, low-latency connectivity throughout each trip.
Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO of Archer, was quoted as saying, “Connectivity is a must have feature for Midnight. Starlink is uniquely built to deliver it. This industry-first collaboration will enable seamless, high-speed connectivity and essential amenities for our passengers and pilots.”
Starlink is engineered and operated by SpaceX, the world’s leading provider of orbital launch services. Testing of the Starlink integration into Midnight will follow the announcement.
