Matternet Gains Access to More Than 2,300 North American Hospitals Through Swisslog Healthcare Partnership

October 29, 2026 by Miriam McNabb Leave a Comment

New distribution agreement could give Matternet a competitive advantage in hospital drone delivery by leveraging an established healthcare sales network.

Matternet has announced a partnership with TransLogic, a Swisslog Healthcare company, that could significantly expand its reach in the hospital drone delivery market. Under the agreement, TransLogic’s sales team will offer Matternet’s drone delivery systems to its existing hospital customers.

Swisslog Healthcare’s automated transport systems operate in more than 2,300 hospitals across North America, including 18 of the top 20 U.S. hospitals. Its global customer base exceeds 3,000 hospitals.

The agreement gives Matternet access to an established healthcare sales channel rather than requiring the drone delivery company to develop every hospital relationship independently. It could also provide a competitive advantage as hospitals evaluate drone delivery services.

The partnership does not guarantee new customers or deployments. However, it positions Matternet alongside a supplier that hospitals already use for critical logistics operations.

Connecting Hospital Transport Networks

TransLogic provides automated transport systems that move medications, laboratory specimens, and other supplies within hospitals. Matternet’s drone systems serve a similar purpose between separate facilities.

The companies aim to connect these two forms of transport, creating a more automated delivery network across hospital systems.

“For years, hospitals have automated what happens inside their walls. This partnership extends that automation to everything outside them,” said Cory Kwarta, CEO of Swisslog Healthcare. “Connecting our network with Matternet’s aerial delivery platform is a meaningful step forward for hospitals and the patients they serve.”

The partnership will focus initially on hospitals in California, Florida, and Arizona during its first year.

The companies plan to use Matternet’s next-generation M3 platform, designed to carry packages weighing up to 11 pounds within a 10-mile service radius. The system includes an automated dock for storage and charging, which can be installed on hospital rooftops or other available space.

Matternet’s existing M2 platform has received FAA type and production certification. The M3 remains subject to development, testing, and regulatory approvals.

An Established Sales Channel for Drone Delivery

The distribution agreement could be particularly important for Matternet’s long-term growth.

Hospitals often work with established vendors to purchase, install, and maintain specialized equipment. By working through TransLogic, Matternet can introduce drone delivery through an existing supplier relationship.

The companies will also explore expanding the agreement to include installation, maintenance, and support services through Swisslog Healthcare’s field service organization. The arrangement could help Matternet address some of the practical challenges of expanding drone delivery across multiple hospital locations.

“Swisslog Healthcare has been a leader in automated hospital transport for decades. This partnership gives us the ability to bring the benefits of drone delivery directly into the more than 3,000 hospitals worldwide that depend on Swisslog tube systems,” said Andreas Raptopoulos, Founder and CEO of Matternet. “A lab specimen may be shipped from a remote clinic to a central lab by a drone and then travel by pneumatic tube inside a hospital to its destination. End-to-end automation will define the future of hospital logistics.”

Building on Healthcare Drone Delivery Experience

Matternet has operated healthcare drone delivery services in Europe since 2017 and in the United States since 2019. Its operations have included transporting laboratory samples, vaccines, pathology specimens, and pharmaceuticals. The company has also worked with logistics partners, including UPS, to develop commercial drone delivery operations.

The new TransLogic agreement represents a different approach to expansion. Rather than relying solely on individual hospital projects or logistics partnerships, Matternet can now reach potential customers through a company already embedded in hospital operations.

For the broader drone delivery industry, the agreement illustrates how partnerships with established healthcare suppliers could help bring drone delivery into routine logistics operations.

The immediate impact will depend on hospital adoption, successful M3 deployments, and required regulatory approvals. But the agreement gives Matternet a potentially valuable position in the healthcare market before drone delivery becomes a standard part of hospital logistics.
