Gremsy Adds New NDAA Payloads with FLIR Thermal Technology

October 28, 2025 by Miriam McNabb Leave a Comment

Spherical and compact payloads bring AI and situational awareness to public safety and defense missions

Gremsy and Teledyne FLIR OEM have announced a new collaboration that brings Thermal by FLIR technology to Gremsy’s latest equipment options for commercial and government operators. The integration enables drones to capture thermal data for missions that need real time awareness during day or night operations.

Teledyne FLIR OEM is the global leader in thermal imaging module production. Gremsy specializes in gimbal and payload systems used in professional drone operations. The companies say the new payloads give operators reliable access to NDAA compliant sensors.

“Thermal by FLIR helps position Gremsy at the forefront of drone payloads with reliable NDAA compliant thermal camera module availability,” said Jared Faraudo, vice president, product management, Teledyne FLIR OEM. “By integrating the size weight and power SWaP optimized long wave infrared Boson+ camera module within the Gremsy spherical payload designs, the collaboration empowers demanding professional applications that require situational awareness day or night.”

New payloads for ISR and public safety

Gremsy has developed two different NDAA compliant payloads featuring the Thermal by FLIR Boson+ thermal camera module. Boson+ is ITAR free and built to meet NDAA requirements for equipment used in federal programs.

Greasy Lynx, NDAA-compliant payload

The Lynx payload gives drone teams a very compact option for aerial intelligence. It reduces size and weight, which can extend flight times. The model includes both thermal and visible cameras. Gremsy says the system supports drone as first responder programs and public safety users who need to act quickly.

The ORUS L payload shows a different design. It features a sphere shape that protects the sensors and offers smooth movement in flight. It includes edge processing powered by the NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX. The onboard compute allows advanced tasks such as object detection, target lock, and autonomous tracking.

Gremsy ORUS NDAA-compliant payload

“Boosting innovation in uncrewed intelligence, our Lynx and Orus L payloads represent monumental achievements for our team while pushing new frontiers for our expanding spherical ecosystem,” said Huy Pham, CTO of Gremsy. “The sphere form factor enables exceptional protection, aerodynamic efficiency, and a flexible platform for a wide range of critical applications. Our new payloads, enhanced by Teledyne FLIR OEM’s thermal imaging technology, help users better achieve their mission objectives with unprecedented insight.”

Design for demanding conditions

ORUS L is IP55 rated and supports flight on both VTOL and fixed wing aircraft at speeds up to 100 kilometers per hour. It includes a radiometric Boson+ thermal camera, an EO camera, and a laser range finder. This mix positions the payload for inspection work, long range operations, and public safety missions that require accuracy.

Thermal imaging helps responders locate people, detect heat signatures from fires or equipment, and inspect buildings or power systems without direct access. Combining thermal imaging with edge AI features can reduce the time needed to make decisions in the field.

A growing market for compliant thermal solutions

The Thermal by FLIR program supports companies that want to add thermal capability to their own products. The program gives hardware developers a faster way to move from design to production by using tested modules and tools supplied by Teledyne FLIR OEM.

More public safety agencies and defense programs in the United States now require NDAA compliant systems for new drone purchases. Payloads like Lynx and ORUS L provide new options for organizations seeking to meet those requirements without losing performance.

The collaboration between Gremsy and Teledyne FLIR OEM reflects a growing interest in advanced sensor integration. Drone programs need reliable tools for situational awareness while operating in busy or challenging environments.
