Versaterm Acquires DroneSense, Advancing Drone as First Responder Integration

July 31, 2025 by Miriam McNabb 1 Comment

Public safety software provider joins growing list of major companies investing in drone technology for first respons

Versaterm, a global public safety software provider, has acquired DroneSense, a leading developer of drone operations platforms for emergency response. This move signals a growing trend of mainstream public safety technology companies investing in drone programs and the Drone as First Responder (DFR) model.

The acquisition brings DroneSense’s capabilities into Versaterm’s core systems, including its Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Incident Command & Control platforms. By integrating drone operations directly into dispatch workflows, Versaterm aims to help agencies deploy drones as easily as police, fire, or EMS units. The goal is to improve response times, expand situational awareness, and enhance safety for responders and the public.

“This acquisition moves us closer to a future where drones are as routine as any patrol or fire unit,” said Warren Loomis, President and CEO of Versaterm. “Adding DroneSense expands the capabilities we can offer agencies to deploy aerial support as part of response, delivering new ways to visualize complex scenes, respond with greater precision and keep both responders and communities safe.”

Part of a Growing Investment Trend in DFR

Versaterm’s move highlights the growing interest among public safety vendors in drone technology. Flock Safety, known for its license plate recognition tools, acquired DFR platform Aerodome. Meanwhile, Axon, a provider of body cameras and evidence management tools, bought tactical drone company Sky-Hero and counter drone company Dedrone. These investments suggest a broader industry shift toward including drones in routine emergency response.

DroneSense’s platform supports both local and remote missions, including DFR deployments. It offers live streaming, real-time collaboration, and full compliance support for policy-driven data oversight. Agencies retain full control of their data, including how it is stored and shared.

“DroneSense was built to give public safety teams a smarter, faster way to use drones when every second counts,” said Christopher Eyhorn, CEO of DroneSense. “Joining Versaterm allows us to bring that vision to more agencies, with deeper integration into the systems they already rely on. We’re excited to grow what we started, bringing advanced flight capabilities, real-time intelligence and unmatched flexibility to the heart of public safety operations.”

Enabling Scalable Drone Operations in Public Safety

DroneSense is designed to simplify complex drone operations. Its hardware-agnostic approach allows agencies to use a variety of drone models and integrate with third-party systems. Built on secure infrastructure, the platform meets high standards for data protection and privacy.

By incorporating DroneSense, Versaterm enhances its ability to provide unified tools for incident response. This aligns with the company’s broader mission to build an integrated public safety platform that supports faster decision-making and more effective operations.
