Delivery and Support for Advanced eVTOL Systems to Enhance ADF Capabilities
Quantum-Systems Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Quantum Systems, has been awarded two significant contracts under DEF129-SUAS, formerly known as Land 129 Phase 4B. The contracts, totaling AUD $90 million, were signed on April 24, 2024, in Brisbane, Queensland. They encompass the acquisition of Vector/Scorpion 2-in-1 fixed-wing electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) small uncrewed aerial systems (SUAS) and a comprehensive support contract for training, maintenance, engineering, supply, and logistics services.
The delivery of these systems to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) is scheduled to begin in April 2025, with support services extending until 2031. Quantum-Systems Australia, based in Redbank, Queensland, will manage significant work and delivery aspects, enhancing in-country capability for contract execution and fostering local economic development. The company emphasizes supporting Indigenous Enterprises, SMEs, and entities promoting veteran employment.
Quantum-Systems Australia recently inaugurated a 22,755 square-foot manufacturing facility in March 2024, underscoring its commitment to Australia and the development of Australian Industry Capabilities. This expansion is expected to create up to 50 new jobs in engineering, manufacturing, and administration over the next five years, supporting broader business growth plans in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Vector 2-in-1 fixed-wing eVTOL UAS offers real-time, high-resolution video for surveillance and reconnaissance missions. It is a portable solution that can be operational within three minutes and can take off and land in confined spaces without additional tools or equipment. The system can also be reconfigured as the Scorpion multicopter by replacing the wings and tail with a separate set of booms and props, providing flexibility for various mission requirements.
