Israel Ministry of Defense Adopts Mobilicom’s Skyhopper COMBO Data Link for Small Drone Program

October 30, 2022 by Miriam McNabb 8 Comments

Israel Minister of Defense Orders Mobilicom’s Skyhopper Combo – company marks NASDAQ listing, Q3 2022 successes

by DRONELIFE Staff Writer Ian M. Crosby

Drone cybersecurity and smart solutions provider Mobilicom has fulfilled an initial SkyHopper COMBO order from the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD) for a new fleet deployment program developed by a leading drone manufacturer. IMOD has expressed interest in expanding its fleet deployment, likely resulting in larger repeat orders going forward.

Mobilicom’s SkyHopper COMBO data link is being utilized as part of IMOD’s new drone platform, designed to operate in environments prone to cyber-attacks. Recognised for its industry-leading line of sight (LOS) and beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVOS) capability, the SkyHopper COMBO is enabled by secured direct software defined radio (SDR) data link or one of two cellular operators. The SkyHopper COMBO is also able to scale for simultaneous use of small drone fleets by multiple teams in multiple locations.

While the SkyHopper COMBO’s adoption by IMOD highlights its use for defense applications, it is also suitable for a variety of commercial applications, such as suburban drone delivery, long range inspection of utility infrastructure and public safety operations.

“The incorporation of SkyHopper COMBO by the Israel Ministry of Defense as part of its small drone fleet solution is testament to Mobilicom’s cybersecurity credentials and the inherent flexibility of the COMBO to operate one of three available datalinks, guaranteeing connectivity anywhere, anytime,” said Mobilicom CEO Oren Elkayam. “The order adds to success with Tier 1 drone and robotics customers globally, and highlights another avenue for customer adoption and expansion within our end-to-end offering, ensuring we are well-positioned to continue to execute against our growth strategy.”

NASDAQ Listing, Q3 2022 Success

In addition to the IMOD deal, Q3 2022 saw a confirmed order backlog of A$790,000 for delivery in 2022 and 1Q FY22.  Mobilicom has also been awarded a new $408,000 Space Florida R&D grant; launched SkyHopper Micro designed to enable mass deployment of small drone fleets, and began trading on the NASDAQ following a $19.2 million initial public offering.  Mobilicom held a cash balance of $22.2 million as of 30 September 2022.

Mobilicom CEO Oren Elkayam said, “Mobilicom’s dual listing on the NASDAQ is game changing for our growth trajectory. It enables us to build our presence in US the world’s largest and most mature drone market and EU at a time when sophisticated small drones and robotics are playing an important role in modern warfare. Our new US operations are already providing additional opportunities to engage and build credibility with prospective Tier-1 drone customers, reflected in our increased collaboration with US-based Censys Technologies and Space Florida. Importantly, US operations are an essential security requirement for many leading drone manufacturers, particularly those supplying the Department of Defense.”
