This is my new favorite answer to the question, “But why do we really need drones?”
To build bridges, obviously!
Researchers at ETH Zurich have been working on this aerial construction project since the summer of 2012 and this month they shared their progress with the world via YouTube:
That is some serious coordination of software and hardware. The drones have to be able to tie braids, links, and knots as well as keep their lines from getting tangled in their propellers and avoid obstacles and other drones.
