AVI-SPL and Matternet Partner on Drone Delivery for Field Technicians

September 17, 2026 by staff Leave a Comment

The partnership pairs Matternet’s FAA type-certified drone platform with AVI-SPL’s service network to move replacement parts to technicians in congested metro markets.

AVI-SPL announced a partnership with Matternet on September 15, 2026, in a joint release from Tampa, Florida and Mountain View, California. AVI-SPL provides digital workplace technology solutions, while Matternet holds standard FAA type certification for its drone delivery platform. The partnership deploys drone logistics to speed service delivery across metropolitan markets.

The arrangement combines AVI-SPL service, integration and supply chain operations with Matternet autonomous drone technology, targeting delivery of critical equipment and replacement parts to field technicians within minutes rather than hours. The model aims squarely at ground-transportation delays in congested urban and suburban areas.

“At AVI-SPL, we are always looking for new ways to enhance the customer experience and support our technicians in the field,” said John Murphy, chief operating officer at AVI-SPL. “This partnership is an important step toward reimagining how critical equipment moves through our service ecosystem. Autonomous drone delivery can improve responsiveness, reduce transportation delays, and create entirely new service capabilities for our customers.”

Expected drone delivery use cases

Three use cases anchor the partnership. The first covers rapid parts delivery to AVI-SPL installers and technicians working in congested downtown areas. The second builds premium service tiers around faster response times and tighter service-level agreements for customers requiring the highest levels of support. The third extends drone logistics across the broader AVI-SPL supply chain to cut road transportation in dense metro markets.

“Drone delivery will transform time-critical B2B logistics,” said Andreas Raptopoulos, founder and chief executive of Matternet. “Instead of waiting hours for a part, a technician can have it within minutes, which allows a job to be completed faster and at a lower cost. We’re excited to partner with AVI-SPL to bring the value of ultra-fast autonomous delivery to this vertical.”

Matternet certification and operating record

Matternet builds the Matternet M2 drone, the Matternet Station and the Matternet Software Platform, and it operates that technology directly or alongside logistics partners including UPS. The company was the first authorized for commercial BVLOS drone delivery over cities in Switzerland, and the first to launch routine revenue-generating drone delivery operations in the United States. Matternet holds both standard type certification and production certification from the FAA, and it partners with UPS and Ameriflight for Part 135 operations.

The company started with humanitarian delivery missions in 2014, then launched B2B healthcare operations in Europe in 2017 and in the United States in 2019. Matternet expanded into B2C delivery in Silicon Valley in 2024. Its technology has enabled more than 60,000 commercial flights across U.S. and European urban and suburban environments.
