AIR Delivers First Production-Ready eVTOL Cargo Aircraft

December 17, 2025 by Miriam McNabb Leave a Comment

Company begins commercial rollout after two years of operational deployment

AIR has delivered its first production-ready electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, marking a key step from development into commercial manufacturing. The aircraft is AIR’s production cargo model and follows nearly two years of operational use by the company’s launch customer with pre-production aircraft.

The newly delivered aircraft will enter service in early 2026. AIR plans to deliver an additional 18 aircraft throughout the year. Some of these aircraft will be sent to AIR’s U.S.-based operations to support demonstrations and advance certification efforts.

According to the company, the first flight of the production aircraft will take place in Southern Israel before it begins operational missions.

From Prototype to Production

The production model builds on a prototype aircraft delivered to AIR’s launch customer in the fourth quarter of 2023. Since then, the aircraft has supported sustained operations in real-world conditions.

These operations included beyond visual line of sight missions, remote resupply, and integration with ground teams. Flights also took place in challenging environments and under varied mission profiles.

AIR says the data gathered from these deployments directly shaped the production aircraft. The company views this step as evidence that eVTOL cargo systems are moving beyond test platforms and into operational use.

The aircraft is designed to support both commercial cargo missions and logistics operations in contested environments. AIR positions the platform as a dual-use system that can serve civilian and government needs.

New Airframe and System Upgrades

The production cargo model features a new airframe developed with automotive manufacturer EDAG. The aircraft includes advanced electric motors and a fully updated avionics suite.

AIR has also integrated redundant communication and navigation systems designed to operate in GPS-denied environments. These systems aim to improve reliability during complex missions.

The aircraft can take off and land vertically while carrying a payload of up to 550 pounds. AIR says this capacity supports a growing range of uncrewed cargo applications and aligns with broader trends in advanced air mobility.

The updated electrical and avionics architecture is designed to support scalable operations. AIR notes that the system is built with commercial manufacturing and long-term deployment in mind.

Design Focused on Operations

AIR emphasized that the production model reflects deliberate design choices focused on efficiency and flexibility. The aircraft includes optimized battery integration and a larger cargo bay.

Foldable wings and motor arms allow for compact storage and easier transport. These features also support faster deployment across different mission types.

The aircraft’s streamlined body and refined airflow management improve range and flight efficiency. AIR pairs these aerodynamic changes with an advanced flight control system.

According to the company, the flight control system improves stability, responsiveness, and redundancy. These upgrades are intended to support sustained operations rather than limited test flights.

Company Milestones and Outlook

“This production model represents years of engineering refinement and collaboration with industry leaders, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies,” said Rani Plaut, CEO and Co-founder of AIR. “We’ve moved beyond proof of concept to proven performance and commercial deployment, supported by vital partnerships. We look forward to continuing to deliver on the promise of transforming how cargo moves around the world.”

The delivery follows several recent milestones for AIR. These include the issuance of an FAA airworthiness certificate and the completion of a $23 million Series A funding round.

AIR has also conducted extensive nighttime BVLOS cargo operations and flown across a range of mission scenarios. The company says these missions demonstrate the maturity of its uncrewed cargo platform.

In addition to cargo aircraft deliveries, AIR plans to begin fulfilling more than 2,900 pre-orders for its piloted AIR ONE aircraft in the coming year. The two-seat aircraft is expected to move forward following light sport aircraft certification.

As AIR begins production deliveries, the company is positioning itself to serve both uncrewed logistics and piloted eVTOL markets. The rollout reflects a broader shift toward operational electric aircraft entering service rather than remaining in development.

About AIR

AIR is an aerospace OEM developing dual-use eVTOL aircraft for uncrewed logistics and FAA-certified piloted flight. The company operates flight testing facilities in the United States and Israel.

AIR focuses on combining engineering, certification, and operational experience to support a wide range of missions. These include commercial cargo logistics, emergency response, medevac support, and contested logistics.

The company applies practices from the automotive industry and uses patented hardware and software designs. AIR aims to bring scalable electric aircraft into real-world service across global markets.
