DroneShield Partners with SRI Group to Combat Rising Airport Drone Threats

October 27, 2025 by Ian McNabb Leave a Comment

DroneShield has launched a strategic partnership with SRI Group to address the escalating threat of drone incursions at airports worldwide. This collaboration brings together counter-drone technology expertise and aviation security experience to protect critical infrastructure.

Strategic Partnership Addresses Critical Security Gap

DroneShield, a global leader in counter-drone technology listed on the Australian Securities Exchange, has announced a partnership with SRI Group, an aviation security advisory company led by former U.S. Transportation Security Administration Deputy Administrator John Halinski. The collaboration focuses on providing counter-drone threat assessments to airports facing increasing security challenges from unauthorized drone activity.

The partnership leverages DroneShield’s expertise in counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) protection for critical infrastructure. As the only publicly listed C-UAS company globally, DroneShield specializes in AI-powered solutions that detect, track, and neutralize drone threats without causing harm to people or property.

Experienced Leadership Drives Security Solutions

John Halinski brings exceptional credentials to the initiative. As former TSA Deputy Administrator from 2012 to 2014, he oversaw operations for the 62,000-person organization and implemented risk-based security approaches. His 25-year U.S. Marine Corps career included specialization in counterterrorism, counter-drugs, and counter-proliferation operations.

SRI Group’s Counter-UAS Threat & Risk Assessment platform delivers strategic intelligence that helps airport leadership identify vulnerabilities and prioritize security investments. The assessments provide objective data to support decision-making for counter-drone programs.

Real-World Drone Threats Demonstrate Urgent Need

The Copenhagen Airport incident in September 2025 exemplifies the serious nature of drone threats to aviation. The airport was forced to shut down for nearly four hours after unidentified drones infiltrated its airspace. This closure resulted in 77 flight cancellations and 217 delays, causing significant operational disruptions and financial losses for airlines.

“DroneShield is doing more than publishing a paper—they are creating a pathway for airports to act,” said John Halinski, Principal at SRI Group. “By offering airport leadership access to independent Counter-UAS Threat & Risk Assessments, DroneShield is ensuring that decisions are based on objective data and operational realities.”

Comprehensive Response Strategy

The partnership includes publishing a white paper titled “Best Practices for Counter-Drone Deployment at Civil Airports” to help airports and regulators understand the drone threat landscape and available mitigation technologies. This thought leadership initiative advances global dialogue on protecting airspace from unauthorized drone activity.

DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik emphasized the comprehensive approach: “This is about more than technology, it’s about leadership. With the release of Best Practices for Counter-Drone Deployment at Civil Airports and our collaboration with SRI Group, we’re not only driving awareness but delivering the tools and insights airports need to protect themselves from aerial threats.”

Assessment Program Launches

The companies are offering free Counter-UAS Threat & Risk Assessments to airport executives, available through an online intake process for a limited time. At the upcoming Airports Council International Conference in Canada, DroneShield will host SRI Group at its exhibition stand where airport executives can initiate the assessment process.

Qualified airport leaders will receive tailored assessment reports with actionable insights to advance their counter-drone security programs. This vendor-neutral approach ensures airports receive objective recommendations based on their specific operational requirements and threat environments.
