MightyFly Secures $50M Healthcare Contract for Autonomous Cargo eVTOL Deliveries

October 3, 2025 by Miriam McNabb Leave a Comment

MightyFly, a San Francisco Bay Area-based developer and operator of autonomous hybrid eVTOL cargo aircraft, has announced a five-year, $50 million contract with a leading California healthcare diagnostics provider. The agreement marks one of the largest commercial deployments of autonomous cargo eVTOL aircraft in healthcare logistics to date.

Expedited Healthcare Logistics at Scale

The new service will initially launch in California, expand into Nevada, and then scale nationwide. MightyFly’s Cento aircraft will provide same-day expedited deliveries of diagnostic test kits, transporting hundreds of items per trip between pharmacies, clinics, retail stores, and labs. This approach is designed to offer a faster, more cost-effective alternative to ground transportation and commercial air shipments.

Unlike smaller UAVs that typically handle single-item point-to-point deliveries, MightyFly’s aircraft can autonomously manage multi-stop routes. The company estimates that its eVTOL platform can achieve delivery speeds three times faster than traditional services while lowering operating costs by up to 70%. Optional in-transit cold storage will also support the handling of sensitive medical goods.

Industry Impacts and Sustainability

According to MightyFly, the new logistics model could significantly expand access to healthcare by shortening turnaround times for diagnostic results. The service is expected to support the provider’s customers and end-users, including major retailers such as Amazon, Walmart, CVS, and Kroger, as well as healthcare institutions and universities.

The company also highlights sustainability benefits. Its eVTOL aircraft are projected to reduce emissions by 64% compared to ground vans and by 92% compared to small aircraft, providing a greener logistics option at a time when the U.S. pharmaceutical and healthcare logistics markets—currently valued at over $190 billion—are projected to more than double in the coming decade.

Recent Milestones

The healthcare contract builds on a series of milestones for MightyFly in 2025, including:

  • Over 400 successful flights demonstrating autonomous cargo loading and unloading.

  • Completion of a U.S. Air Force SBIR Phase II project advancing autonomous aerial logistics.

  • More than $210 million in signed commercial Letters of Intent (LOIs).

  • FAA authorization to test in five California airspaces, including seven airports and multiple flight corridors.

“With this contract and the momentum of our recent achievements, MightyFly is leading the next stage of autonomous aerial logistics, moving beyond small drones to transporting large volumes of goods at scale,” said MightyFly CEO Manal Habib. “This is just the beginning and healthcare is the first step.”

About MightyFly

Founded in 2019, MightyFly develops and operates autonomous, fixed-wing, hybrid eVTOL cargo aircraft capable of carrying payloads of up to 100 pounds, with a range of 1,000 miles and speeds of up to 150 mph. Backed by investors including Draper Associates and At One Ventures, the company was named a “Top Supply Chain Startup to Watch” by Business Insider in 2022.
