Flytrex Receives FAA BVLOS Approval, Opening Path to Nationwide Drone Delivery Expansion

Flytrex has received authorization from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations, becoming only the fourth drone delivery company in the country to achieve this milestone. The approval allows Flytrex to scale its services to the 37 largest U.S. metro areas—potentially reaching over 100 million people.

The BVLOS authorization is the result of a decade of development and years of safety testing. Flytrex began working with the FAA in 2017, meeting stringent requirements that included extensive safety data analysis, thousands of flight hours, and operational trials. The company demonstrated that its drones can operate safely alongside other manned and unmanned aircraft, adhering to the same safety standards as traditional aviation. Other companies with BVLOS authorization include Wing (a Google company), Amazon, and Zipline.

BVLOS Flight, No Visual Observers

Until now, FAA rules required visual observers to track each drone in flight. Under the new approval, Flytrex can monitor multiple drones remotely from a centralized operations center. The change is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency and lower delivery costs.

With BVLOS, we can now build the infrastructure to bring drone delivery to 100 million Americans.”

Expansion Plans and Recent Achievements

With BVLOS approval in place, Flytrex plans to expand operations in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, aiming to add dozens of new sites by the end of the year and achieve full metro coverage within 12 months. Long-term, the company intends to extend service nationwide.

This milestone follows other recent developments. In July, Flytrex integrated its services into the DoorDash app, offering extended operating hours from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and a leading payload capacity in the Dallas region. Earlier this year, the company, alongside Wing, became the first U.S. commercial drone operator to implement automated flight coordination in shared airspace—demonstrating safe, efficient operations by multiple providers in the same communities.

Together, these advances position Flytrex to move beyond pilot programs and toward scalable, everyday drone delivery for millions of Americans.

Flytrex has already completed over 200,000 deliveries across Texas and North Carolina, with a focus on fast, on-demand food and retail deliveries to suburban neighborhoods. The company continues to expand its reach while emphasizing affordability, operational safety, and community integration.
