Strategic Partnerships to Advance Drone Capabilities
Garuda Aerospace is strengthening its industry collaborations to accelerate drone innovation. Key partnerships include:
- Thales – Development of unmanned traffic management systems.
- Rajasthan Electronics (REIL) & HFCL – Focused on advanced drone communication and surveillance technologies.
- Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) – Supporting research in military drone applications.
- Tata Elxsi & Central University of Jammu – Joint efforts in AI and autonomous navigation.
These collaborations align with India’s focus on self-reliant drone manufacturing, enhancing operational efficiency in defense and security applications.
“These partnerships, coupled with our new drone platforms, represent a significant leap forward in our commitment to bolstering India’s defence capabilities,” said Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace. “Aero India 2025 provides the ideal platform to showcase how these innovations will shape the future of defence, security, and humanitarian efforts, addressing critical needs both domestically and internationally. These developments will fuel the expansion and explore new markets further solidifying our position as a global leader in drone technology,” he concluded.
Government Support Boosts India’s Drone Industry
The Indian government’s 2025-26 Union Budget reflects a commitment to expanding the country’s drone sector. A ₹57 crore allocation to the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme represents a 7.5% increase from the previous year. This initiative aims to strengthen local drone production and reduce dependence on imported components.
Additional budgetary measures include:
- Expanded PLI Scope – The scheme now includes incentives for drone leasing, domestic software development, and AI-driven drone applications.
- Increased Localization – The government seeks to reduce drone component imports from 50-60% to 30% through domestic manufacturing incentives.
- Defense and National Security Focus – An expected ₹2,000-3,000 crore (~$240-360 million USD) allocation aims to boost military drone deployment for border surveillance, logistics, and security.
- Research and Development Investment – Industry leaders advocate for a ₹300 crore (~$36 million USD) R&D fund to drive AI-enabled and dual-use drone advancements.
- Job Creation and Economic Growth – The drone sector is projected to generate over 1 million jobs by 2025, supporting India’s goal of becoming a major drone technology hub.
The Future of India’s Drone Industry
With the unveiling of new drones and expanding government support, India’s drone industry is positioned for rapid growth. Garuda Aerospace’s participation at Aero India 2025 highlights the increasing role of drones in national security, disaster response, and commercial applications. The continued expansion of India’s domestic manufacturing and strategic partnerships will be essential in driving global competitiveness in unmanned aerial systems.
Aero India 2025 will take place from February 10-14, 2025, at Yelahanka Air Force Station, Bengaluru, India.
