SimActive Inc.’s Correlator3D™ software is being used by GMAPSNZ to produce high-quality mapping products in New Zealand. GMAPSNZ has been using the software to handle New Zealand’s complex terrain, working in agriculture, environmental assessment, and engineering design. For over a decade, the company has relied exclusively on SimActive’s platform for various projects.

The software generates digital surface models for contouring, watershed analysis, and orthomosaics for project progress reporting. According to Gordon Morris, owner of GMAPSNZ, “SimActive leads the class in mapping software.” He added that the company’s years of experience with drone-based imagery give them the knowledge to help others avoid common mistakes.

Productivity Gains with Correlator3D Version 10.2

SimActive recently introduced Correlator3D™ Version 10.2, featuring a significant overhaul of its mosaic and point cloud editing tools. These improvements are designed to save users time and reduce editing efforts, benefiting both military and commercial operations.

The new version includes visual aids and a streamlined interface that allows real-time editing of seamlines. Users can now specify the best ortho image to use for a scene, removing unwanted elements like vehicles or selecting the best nadir image for refined results. Louis Simard, CTO at SimActive, called the new tools “a real game changer in terms of productivity and cost reduction.”

Versatility and Real-World Impact

Initially developed for large-format aerial cameras, Correlator3D™ has since adapted to integrate drone and satellite imagery. This versatility has proven valuable in both commercial and military applications. For example, the software was used by the French military in disaster response after Hurricane Irma, where it processed drone-captured ortho imagery to assess damage.

SimActive’s software continues to evolve to meet the growing demand for fast, flexible mapping solutions. Its capacity to handle data from multiple platforms ensures it remains a valuable tool for users in a wide range of industries.
