LiDAR Surveying Drone Made in the US: Microdrones Adds Alabama Manufacturing Site

Microdrones to Sell Drone Surveying Equipment Designed and Made in the US Starting in 2024

Microdrones has announced that they will be opening a manufacturing factory in the United States to meet the growing demand for drone surveying equipment in the region. The site, which will be in Huntsville, Alabama, will go into operation in 2024.

Founded in 2005, Microdrones has been advancing the applications of UAVs through their development and manufacturing of drone surveying equipment and software. Their ​​TrueView drone Light detection and ranging (LiDAR)/Imaging sensors and LP360 point cloud data processing software are designed to make surveying work more efficient and cost effective for civil engineers and surveying professionals. They have become one of the lead providers of LiDAR mapping UAV products in North America.

Their new manufacturing facility will not only allow them to increase their production capacity but bring them closer to their US customer base. Microdrones also intends to transfer their research and development activities to this location over the next year.

Vivien Hériard Dubreuil, CEO of mdGroup, the parent company of Microdrones, said, “Strengthening our existing operations in the U.S. is a natural move for us. Our group has a longstanding presence in Huntsville, and we have been supporting Microdrones U.S. customers from Huntsville for the past 18 months. Now, in light of the energy of the drone surveying market in the U.S. and a strong reception by U.S. customers, it makes sense to bring these functions closer to those customers. We were already selling NDAA-compliant versions of our products; now our products will be designed and made in the U.S.”

This announcement comes on the heels of Microdrones’ reveal of their EasyOne Drone Surveying System. The first-of-its-kind NDAA-Compliant LiDAR Drone Surveying System is one of the products slated for manufacturing at the Huntsville factory.
