Auterion Updates Skynode X: Meeting New Goals for Autonomy, Reliability, and Flexibility

Auterion Announces Updated All-in-One Computing Platform for Robotics, Skynode X, Enables Advanced Reliability and Autonomous Drones

Auterion has released an update for its drone computing platform; Skynode X. The update retains the original capabilities of the technology as well as providing key performance, reliability and precision advancements.

Auterion is a leading product developer for autonomous vehicles, and they are committed to advancing the adoption of autonomous fleets in both the public and commercial sectors. Their operating systems are designed to automate vehicle behavior on the ground and in the air.

The original Skynode X, which was released in 2020, has been utilized by several UAS manufacturers for creating autonomous fleets that can perform a variety of tasks, from the mundane and repetitive to highly precise and high risk. The product itself combines a flight controller, mission computer, and LTE connectivity into a small, compact All-in-one computing platform. Today, the 2020 version is being utilized for search and rescue missions, aerial delivery, the exploration of hazardous landscapes, and surveillance missions.

The key advancements in the Skynode X increase reliability and flexibility to the original drone computing platform, and they enable autonomous behaviors that can respond in high-risk environments. The Flight Management Unit (FMU), FMUv6, now has twice the computing power and RAM. Additional improvements in the vision software development kit can be used to create custom applications or paired with third-party applications. In sum, these advancements allow for the Skynode X platform to be used in larger, more computing-resource demanding drones or for highly specialized operations such as precision landing or obstacle detection.

Additionally, the updated Skynode X is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Small enough to fit in the palm of one’s hand, the computing platform is now more versatile and can be easily equipped without sacrificing the performance capabilities of a UAV.
