DJI and Apple Join Forces to Sell Phantom 4

DJI Phantom 4DJI has been called the “Apple of the Pearl River Valley,” and certainly their sleek new retail stores and the pared down styling of their products are reminiscent of Apple’s aesthetic; and their market dominance in the consumer drone space is a match for Apple’s in consumer electronics.  Now DJI and Apple have announced that they will partner to offer the Phantom 4 exclusively through DJI and Apple Retail on March 15.

DJI announced the partnership in a press release today: “DJI, the world leader in aerial imaging, today announced that the DJI Phantom 4, the latest, most advanced version of its flagship consumer quadcopter camera series, will be available at a dedicated section of the Apple Store starting on March 15.

By launching the DJI Phantom 4 at over 400 Apple Stores, the selection of Apple as its first exclusive retail launch partner was driven by the desire to give customers around the world first access to the look and feel of the most advanced aerial imaging technology, according to DJI company representatives.

Pre-orders are already available online for the DJI Phantom 4 on Apple.com and DJI.com, with first shipments expected to arrive on March 15 – the same day customers can experience and purchase the product at Apple Retail Stores around the globe and DJI’s flagship stores.”

Offering drones at the store is a departure for Apple, but would seem to be a strong match. DJI has established themselves as an industry leader and their CEO, 35 year old Frank Wong, has said that he hopes to make drones a must-have accessory for the young adult market.  With complementary styles and a similar market base, the partnership looks like a win on both sides.
