Big Data as a Service leader Qubole recently moved to larger quarters in Mountain View, Calif. To mark the occasion, the company used a DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ to videotape and commemorate the occasion.
Qubole has joined a number of high technology firms using drones to get the word out. While FAA requirements still do not allow this type of paid marketing using drones, companies such as Qubole use employees’ personal drones to create great footage to announce events such as a moving into new headquarters.
Qubole provides cloud-based big data solutions and boasts clients such as Pinterest, MediaMath, and DataLogix. Qubole co-founder and CEO Ashish Thusoo said, “Drones can capture amazing video and provide a new perspective, and so we thought this would be a fun way to promote our move. It is a great way to let our client and partners know that we’ve moved and continue our rapid growth.” The company also believes that one-day drones will be a significant source of sensor data, with clients eventually using Qubole’s big data analytics platform to manage and analyze data captured by drones.
