FLIR Comes to a Armed Services Branch Near You

February 1, 2019 by Harry McNabb 9 Comments

FLIR continues to gain importance as a major military supplier with two recently signed two government contacts, one totaling 39.6 and the other totaling 29.7 million dollars.

This is in addition to a 89.7 million dollar deal to the French government signed earlier this year.

From a recent press release FLIR announced that it received a order for 24 U.S. Army Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Dismounted Reconnaissance Sets, and related Kits and Outfits (CBRN DR-SKO) systems in a five year deal.
From their press release.

FLIR Systems received a delivery order totaling $27.9M from the U.S. Department of Defense for DR-SK ...

“The CBRN DR-SKO system is a set of mission specific kits that characterize and provide full spectrum CBRN dismounted reconnaissance capability utilized by the U.S. Military Joint Services, including units within the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction-Civil Support Teams. The program initiated development in 2008 with FLIR Systems, Inc. as the prime contractor.

“Our field-proven DR-SKO solutions provide critical technology to help U.S. soldiers work more safely in their mission to ensure the well-being of our country,” said Jim Cannon, President and CEO at FLIR. “This order demonstrates the U.S. military’s confidence in FLIR to provide reliable products that ensure accurate analysis for safe and fast response measures to complete their very important mission.”

Since the Department of Defense awarded the original CBRN DR-SKO full rate production IDIQ contract in December 2014, FLIR has delivered nearly 200 systems. Production for this order will continue to be performed out of FLIR’s facility in Elkridge, Maryland.”

In a separate announcement,  FLIR announced a 39.6 million dollar order to deliver FLIR Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance Systems (PRS) for the U.S. Army.  This tiny drone will support platoon and small unit level surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities as part of the initiative named the Soldier Borne Sensor (SBS) Program.

From the recent press release.

FLIR Systems has been awarded a contract to deliver Black Hornet Personal Reconnaissance Systems for ...

“We are proud to be selected by the U.S. Army for the SBS Program of Record. This contract represents a significant milestone with the operational large-scale deployment of nano-UAVs into the world’s most powerful Army,” said Jim Cannon, President and CEO of FLIR Systems. “This contract is a major win for the newly established Unmanned Systems & Integrated Solutions business division at FLIR and demonstrates the strong and urgent demand for nano-UAV technology offered by FLIR. Protecting U.S. warfighters with our unmanned solutions is a key objective for FLIR.”

This contract expands the use of FLIR’s Black Hornet PRS for Armysurveillance and reconnaissance programs. FLIR has delivered over 8,000 Black Hornet nano-UAVs around the world.

Due to the significantly increased demand for unmanned aerial system (UAS) support in the U.S., FLIR is expanding its UAS service and repairs center in Somerset, Kentucky. Deliveries will begin in early 2019. ”
