DJI, makers of the iconic Phantom line of drones, updated the DJI Vision mobile app (iOS and Android) to advance the autonomous flight capabilities of their latest line of UAS, the Phantom 2 Vision and the Phantom 2 Vision+.
The update, called the Vision Ground Station Update, allows Phantom Vision pilots to set up to 16 GPS waypoints by simply tapping on a Google Earth-like interface within the app. Each waypoint can be easily customized for speed and altitude and.
The waypoints are limited to distances within battery range and cannot be placed within 8 km of an airport.
Pilots can then assume direct control of the camera while the drone flies itself.
An emergency “Come Home” button is a single tap away should the pilot need to recover the Phantom for any reason.
“The Vision Ground Station is the first waypoint navigation system designed specifically for photographers and videographers,” DJI’s Michael Perry said. “By integrating seamlessly with the VISION app, Vision Ground Station allows pilots to fly autonomously and capture high quality, stable images without additional set up.”
