Expanding Public Safety Capabilities with Drones

Flock Safety, a company known for its suite of public safety solutions, has acquired Uniform Sierra Aerospace. Uniform Sierra Aerospace, a U.S.-based provider of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS) for public safety, brings its expertise in American-made, National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)-compliant drones to Flock’s growing portfolio. This acquisition aligns with Flock Safety’s mission to improve community safety through advanced technology.

Uniform Sierra Aerospace, founded to create affordable and secure drones for public safety organizations, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. According to Uniform Sierra’s LinkedIn post, “By tapping into the vast talent and reach that the Flock team has built, we are going to be able to supercharge the capabilities and quantities of systems we produce.” The company emphasized its commitment to supporting its existing base of Arrowhead operators nationwide while transitioning to its new role under Flock Safety.

Duncan Mulgrew, co-founder of Uniform Sierra Aerospace, shared his excitement about joining Flock as Director of Engineering on the airframes team. “Building Uniform Sierra was an incredible experience, and I am only optimistic about the future from here,” Mulgrew said in his announcement.

Integration of Drone Technology into Flock Safety’s Ecosystem

This acquisition marks another step forward for Flock Safety in integrating drone technology into its public safety solutions. The company’s existing tools include license plate recognition (LPR) cameras, gunshot detection sensors, and the FlockOS® Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) software. By adding drones to this ecosystem, Flock Safety aims to provide agencies with faster intelligence and situational awareness during critical incidents.

Flock’s efforts in drone technology began with its October 2024 acquisition of Aerodome, a company specializing in Drone as First Responder (DFR) technology. Garrett Langley, Founder and CEO of Flock Safety, emphasized the transformative potential of this technology: “Anyone who’s seen a drone-as-first-responder program in action knows that this technology will play a central role in the future of public safety. No other technology helps law enforcement officers get eyes on the scene faster than a drone.”

DFR systems, such as those developed by Aerodome, use automated docking stations and advanced software to enable drones to operate beyond visual line of sight. These capabilities reduce response times, improve officer safety, and lower operational costs. The integration of Aerodome and Uniform Sierra technologies allows Flock to enhance its rapid-response solutions further.

Commitment to American-Made Drones

As part of its strategic growth, Flock Safety has said that it plans to release a suite of American-made drones over the next 12 months. These drones will comply with NDAA standards, ensuring robust security and meeting federal requirements for law enforcement use. This compliance not only enhances operational reliability but also provides access to federal funding opportunities.

The addition of Uniform Sierra Aerospace strengthens Flock’s initiative by leveraging its expertise in U.S.-manufactured sUAS systems.

Driving Innovation in Public Safety

Flock Safety’s expansion into drone technology is part of a broader effort to innovate public safety tools. By combining advanced drone systems with its existing solutions, Flock aims to empower law enforcement agencies with real-time intelligence to protect communities effectively. Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther, an early adopter of Aerodome’s DFR technology, highlighted its impact: “The integration between Aerodome’s best-in-class technology and Flock Safety’s suite of collaborative policing tools will transform our Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC), empowering our first responders to protect lives and shape a safer Scottsdale.”

The acquisition of Uniform Sierra Aerospace reinforces Flock Safety’s commitment to creating comprehensive, technology-driven solutions for public safety.
