Drones on the Battlefield: Brigadier General Houston Cantwell this Week on Dawn of Drones!

October 19, 2021 by Miriam McNabb 4 Comments

Join the Dawn of Drones podcast on Wednesday, Oct 20th, 11 am ET, as we continue our tribute to Defenders.  This week, host Dawn Zoldi speaks with special guest Brigadier General Houston Cantwell, Commanding General, NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance Force (NAGSF) LIVE from the Italian Air Base, in Sigonella, Italy.  You won’t want to miss their discussion about drones on the battlefield.

Learn how drones on the battlefield are impacting today’s battlespace and that of the future for the U.S. military and its coalition partners.   From his official biography:

Brig. Gen. Houston R. Cantwell is Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Alliance Ground Surveillance Force (NAGSF), stationed at the Italian Air Base, Sigonella, Italy. NAGSF operates the RQ-4D unmanned aircraft to provide full-spectrum intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance support to NATO and the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR).

Brig. Gen. Cantwell was commissioned in 1994 as a Distinguished Graduate of the University of Virginia Air Force ROTC program. He has commanded at multiple levels including two combat units, first as Commander of the 455th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron at Bagram AB, Afghanistan, and later, was the initial Commander of the 732nd Operations Group at Creech Air Force Base, Nevada. In addition, he served as the Wing Commander of the 49th Wing at Holloman AFB, New Mexico. He has performed staff duties at the Pentagon, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, and U.S. Forces Japan. Most recently, he served as the Vice Superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Brig. Gen. is a Command Pilot with more than 2,100 flying hours, including more than 400 combat hours, primarily in the F-16 Fighting Falcon and MQ-9 Reaper.

See more of Dawn’s discussions with the defender community: DRONERESPONDERS and AIRT, and University of North Dakota President Andy Armacost.  Read more about military drone technology: dual-use drone technology, the Air Force Base of the Future, nano drones, and the market in military drones and sensors.
