An Israeli drone company is teaming up with a major port-security firm to provide automated protection for maritime ports and terminals.
Autonomous UAV developer Percepto and port automation provider CERTUS Port Automation have signed an agreement to deploy drones to ports such as Rotterdam to enhance security.
Percepto will use the Sparrow drone, equipped with AI tech to conduct security sweeps and collect data.
“The system identifies anomalies and can send alerts to relevant personnel, pinpointing both location and the nature of the problem,” a press release states. “The drone is fully autonomous, eliminating the need for operators, and can fly on pre-programmed routes around the clock and in almost all weather conditions.”
CERTUS Port Automation solutions are already in place at more than 30 ports and 50 container terminals worldwide including more than 600 installed gates, 300 cranes and 15 rail systems conducting automated recognition of more than 500,000,000 containers.
“We see a growing need for deploying new sensor technology that enables our global customers to retrieve business and security critical information even beyond the borders of ports and (container) terminals,” CERTUS president Leander de Nooijer said. “With Percepto, we’ve found a partner that is an industry leader in this technology and offers full integration of their autonomous drone system with the CERTUS solutions portfolio.”
“Maritime ports and terminals are an exciting new arena with unique requirements that an autonomous drone system can resolve. Percepto is excited to be partnering with CERTUS to make our customers, some of the busiest ports in the world, as efficient and safe as possible while enabling them to maximize resources,” said Dor Abuhasira, Co-founder and CEO of Percepto.
Percepto launched the Sparrow line in November specifically designed for industrial environments. The drone utilizes multiple advanced technologies, such as machine vision and AI, to conduct security, safety and inspection missions, collecting and analyzing data in real-time. The drone line offers standard and thermal visual power and can fly missions around the clock with individual flights clocking in at 40 minutes per mission.
Last month Italian energy giant Enel hired Percepto to patrol its Torrevaldaliga Nord power plant.
