Today, Indemnis Inc., the Alaskan based company that is developing a parachute drone recovery system that is intended to enable safe, regulated commercial flight over people possible, demonstrated 3 out of 3 successful drone recoveries with their product The NEXUS by Indemnis.
Following is how Indemnis described the event:
Based on industry recognized need, ASTM International has created the F38 Committee to facilitate discussion between manufacturers, industry leaders, consumers, and the FAA to ultimately create a consensus standard for Operations Over People. The committee meetings are taking place this week at Virginia Tech November 7-9, 2017. Indemnis Inc. demonstrated the functionality of their system during the meetings. Indemnis is helping to expedite the possibility of waiver applications by providing necessary data required to support an application.
The NEXUS by Indemnis is the only reliable and proven drone failsafe recovery system designed for all commercial-sized unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In short, the Nexus is a ballistic parachute launcher, deploying the parachute in under 30 milliseconds and inflating into a rigid state, moving the attachment point of the parachute away from the control surfaces of the drone and preventing entanglement during a failure.
As of September 2017, there are over 62,000 Part 107 commercial pilots in the United States using drones in their daily businesses. According to CB Insights, there has been $1.2 billion already invested in unmanned aerial tech in 2017 so far. The biggest roadblock to expanding the economic opportunity is government regulation, whereas policy makers will not allow for flight over urban environments until there is a standard for safety and a proven failsafe system on the market that will not entangle and work reliably.
The NEXUS by Indemnis is a risk mitigation tool for enterprise use and sets the highest possible bar for public safety. The system is designed to protect equipment and payload, as well as provide piece of mind to customers and preserve reputation. The system is designed to meet and exceed the upcoming FAA regulations and work 100 percent of the time in all real-world testing scenarios.
