Last Saturday a Chinese drone supplier claims to have set the world record for longest flight time for a drone. Foxtechhobby posted to their Facebook page that, “We JUST did it!!!!!! Broke the Flight Time Record!!!!!”
What they did was fly a Foxtech GAIA 160-Hybrid from a boat in Changdao to the Dalian coast, a distance of 100km that they completed in 180 minutes.
The Foxtech team completed the flight on September 9th flying a GAIA 160-Hybrid. the Foxtech GAIA 160-Hybrid hexacopter has an onboard 2000w generator that provides power to 6 high efficiency motors to ensure a long flight time. It has redundant flight controllers, three GPS and a full range of features such as RTK GPS, 20km datalink, parachute, and a secondary radio control to ensure the drone very reliable and very safe.
The Foxtech team arrived in Changdao on 5 September but had to wait for the weather to cooperate.
The drone was accompanied by a yacht staying within a range of 500 meters to enable the operator to control the aircraft at any time. While the wind picked up speed during the course of the flight, it did not have an adverse effect as the drone is extremely stable.
