National Geographic & DJI Combine Photography Contest with Drone Rental Program

Another day, another drone photography contest. But as this one is being run jointly by DJI and National Geographic – and includes a drone rental program – so it’s a pretty big deal.

The aerial photography contest will run on Instagram from September 5 to October 31, and is open to residents of the United States and Canada. The two are also joining forces to offer hundreds of DJI Mavic Pros to rent for those who don’t own a drone but still want to enter the contest.

#MyMavic Contest

DJI’s contest is open to amateur and professional photographers. All you have to do is upload your best shots to Instagram with the hashtags #MyMavicContest and #NatGeoTravel. National Geographic photo editors will select the top 5 entries at the end of the contest. Each winner will be rewarded with a DJI Mavic Pro.

You’ll need to upload your best shots to Instagram to take part.

“We are very excited to work with National Geographic to help more people experience the fun of aerial technology and give them a different perspective of the world from above,” said Danny Zheng, Vice President of Marketing at DJI.

“In addition to engaging photographers, the photo contest and rental program is a great way to encourage travelers and outdoor enthusiasts to unleash their creativity and expand the infinite possibilities of aerial photography.”

“National Geographic has been proud to help pioneer the field of photography ever since our first published picture in 1905. Since that day we’ve fervently supported ideas and missions that not only go ‘above and beyond’ to push the limits of human potential and provide our fans with new perspectives, but also to champion new technologies with the potential to have a positive impact on taking us all further. This is why we’re excited to work with DJI on this inventive aerial initiative,” said Con Apostolopoulos, Vice President and General Manager of National Geographic Partners.

DJI and National Geographic Combine for Drone Rental Program

Perhaps the more interesting news from this press release is that DJI is setting up a drone rental program to coincide with the contest.

The program is open to users all over the world. All you have to do is sign up to be considered for a two-week free trial with a Mavic Pro. The idea is to get people who have never flown before to see where their creativity takes them. We also expect that DJI is looking to recruit some social media influencers to take the Mavic for a spin. The company says it has hundreds of Mavics around the world ready to be borrowed.

You can sign up and apply to rent a Mavic for free here.
