DJI, the world’s largest drone manufacturer, announced today the appointment of Roger Luo as President of the company.  Luo was previously the Vice President of Operations.

Luo’s focus will be the expansion of DJI’s international business as he takes over day to day operations of the manufacturing giant.

“DJI now has over 11,000 staff worldwide, with offices in 17 cities around the world. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we need to strengthen our management in the area of operations,” said Frank Wang, DJI’s Founder and CEO. “The move will also enable us to gain a deeper understanding of our growing customer base and build stronger relationships with our dealers and partners. Roger has stood out in his executive management skills and holds a track record in operational excellence. Since joining DJI in 2015, Roger’s leadership has improved the overall capabilities of DJI to lead the aerial imaging industry.”  Wang will continue to oversee product development, the company says.

Luo has worked for a variety of high tech companies including Apple, Foxconn and Siemens.  Following his appointment, Mr. Luo said, “DJI is a fast-growing high-tech company and this is a very exciting time for the industry. I look forward to working with the talented team at this company and, together, to explore and maximize the creative possibilities of our technology.”

DJI’s newest consumer products, like the Spark, continue to do well in the market.  The company has expanded their commercial presence also, tweaking consumer drones to play in the professional space with the “Pro” series.  In recent months, however, the company has faced controversy in the US.  Forced upgrades to its operating system led to some drone operators hacking the system.  Concerns over data security recently led to announcements that the US military would no longer use DJI drones.  Despite these issues, the company remains at the top of the drone industry, with some estimates attributing them with up to 70% of the total market.
