GoPro Karma Drone Delayed

karmaKarma, GoPro’s much-anticipated entry into the camera drone market, is being delayed until the holiday shopping season.

When the struggling action camera maker confirmed late last year that it was developing its own drone, the initial release date was the first half of 2016.

The announcement of the delay came Thursday during an earnings call between analysts and company CEO Nick Woodman.

“As late as this week, we believed Karma’s launch was on schedule,” Woodman told analysts.

Woodman said that the company was fine-tuning the drone’s technology, which forced them to make the “difficult decision” to move its expected shipping date to the 2016 holiday season.

Although he didn’t elaborate, Woodman told analysts that Karma’s features make it “much more than a drone.”

“We can’t share any information about how Karma may or may not evolve as we get closer to launch, but what I can share is we are incredibly excited about this product,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, GoPro reported a 50% drop in first quarter sales to $183.5 million.
