Micro drone maker Aerix has announced the launch of its new FPV racing model, the Black Talon. It’s all set to be an affordable and exciting high-performance drone; perfect for beginners keen to get started in a sport ready to take off.
We should have seen this coming really. If you haven’t heard of Aerix, it’s probably because the company changed its name recently, from Axis. Aerix already produces several micro drones that pack a punch while being a lot of fun to fly. One is the Vidius, which we reviewed a while back.
The Black Talon represents Aerix’s first foray into the FPV racing drone market, and judging from the specs and the initial asking price, beginners could do a lot worse. The drone comes with a 720p HD video camera, three speed modes and some clever software to help make racing less challenging for beginners.
For a pre-order price of $139, buyers will receive the drone, a transmitter, a wireless 5.8GHz LCD Monitor, a built-in rechargeable battery & holder, one battery, a 4gb Micro-SD Card, and four spare blades. In short, everything you need to get started. With a flight time of around 5-7 minutes not great for a day’s racing, buyers can also upgrade to a package that includes three extra batteries for $50 more.
Aside from everything you might expect from an FPV micro racer, the Black Talon comes with an Altitude Hold feature, which eliminates the constant need for manually maintaining altitude, leaving the pilot more time to focus on directional and rotational movements and flight. Purists needn’t worry though, there’s a headless mode for those who want to control all flight aspects.
