FLIR has announced their latest thermal solution, the Boson, a set of longwave infrared (LWIR) thermal camera cores that set a new standard for size, weight, power, and performance. The Boson has FLIR’s XIR™ expandable infrared video processing architecture which provides advanced image processing, video analytics, peripheral sensor drivers, and several industry-standard communication interfaces. It is easy to integrate and keeps power consumption low.
The Boson is targeted manufacturers who are looking to take thermal imaging products off the white board and makes them a reality. Its combines ground-breaking SWaP, state-of-the-art imaging, and wide range of built-in image processing and interface capabilities suited for:
- Handheld thermal-imaging systems for first responders, military/paramilitary, and thermography
- Security & surveillance systems
- UAV & robotic vision
- Navigation
- Obstacle Avoidance
- Automotive driver’s vision enhancement
The Boson is available with a range of lenses that enable it to be configured for a variety of projects. It incorporates the Myriad 2, a dedicated vision processor from Movidius that is capable of advanced computer vision operations in the field of deep learning, spatial computing and depth extraction – all within an ultra-low power envelope. Given the Myriad 2’s extremely small power, size and thermal footprints, FLIR is able to embed this powerful processor directly inside the Boson thermal core, while still meeting their SWaP goals.
