The website, which the FAA will presumably announce at some point today, was released by various Twitter users as registermyuas.faa.gov. The website is up and running and appears to be just as easy as the FAA claims.
First asking for an email address, the website sends a verification code to the email, requiring that this first level verification occur before the user may continue. At that point, the system asks for a physical/mailing address and asks the user to confirm that it agrees with a list of basic safety points, takes a credit card number. After asking the user to check a box stating that they understand the penalty for lying, the site issues a “Small UAS Certificate of Registration,” which lists your name, UAS Certificate Number, and the Issue and Expire Dates.
The entire process takes less than 5 minutes, as promised: but questions remain about how much of the information entered will be made public, and how the site will fare when the primary link goes live.
