We are two weeks deep into the holiday season which means if you haven’t started shopping, you are already behind.
The good news is, if you are considering a drone for you or someone on your gift list this year, DroneLife has compiled a list of the best UAV products on the market and promotions that will allow you to get the best bang for your buck.
The one thing we would ask of you is, make sure the person who will be flying the drone knows what he/she is doing. If this will be his/her first drone, we encourage you to nudge your drone recipient to educate himself. A great place to start is our Resources post.
To the drones!
DJI
DJI was the first of the major manufacturers to reveal their holiday plans and they involve protecting your investment.
Customers will receive a free hard shell carrying case with the purchase of any Phantom 3 – a $149 dollar value.

Edit 12/10: DJI currently has the stand-alone Standard listed at $699 ($100 off the regular price) and the backpack bundle listed at $959 (well over the regular price). The company’s Christmas promotion page says the bundle should be $699 so just be aware of this discrepancy and make sure you are only paying $699 for the whole package.
Additionally, DJI is including an extra battery at no extra cost with the purchase of the Inspire 1 this holiday season.

The DJI promotion is running through December 30 and, while it is a little underwhelming, a hardshell backpack is an excellent safety measure, especially for first time drone owners.
3D Robotics
Excellent alternatives to DJI, especially if you already own a GoPro camera.

Disappointingly, when you click the purchase info button for the Phamtom 3 Standard listed for $599 it is $699 and the case is not included.

I think it’s still worth it even at $699
