Eedu Makes DIY Drones Easier Than Ever

Screen Shot 2015-06-19 at 10.21.32 AMMost consumers these days are willing to spend up to a grand on drones that come mounted with a camera. These drones are primarily used to shoot video from the sky, however, you may be seeing a new wave of drones making its way on the market soon.

Welcome DIY drones manufactured by Skyworks. The company is releasing drones that will have the ability to almost do anything you want them to, given that you insert the proper code in their programming. For people like Jinger Zeng, the COO at Skyworks, he wants drones to be more than just machines mounted with a camera. Zeng’s Kickstarter project (Eedu) has already garnered a fair amount of interest since he wants to push the conventional boundaries of the device.

These new drones will be similar to furniture you get from IKEA, in that they can be built from scratch within a matter of minutes and only require some patience and minimal tools. Zeng’s Eedu isn’t the only project in line though to make such versatile drones. 3D Robotics and DJI are working on developer platforms that involve the placement of various sensors on high-tech drones.

These drones will be at the command of their owner, so whatever a person decides to code into the device, it will do. This is a huge leap from the conventional drones we see these days that are solely used to capture aerial video. With the introduction of this new idea, drones will be able to perform the other 4 senses besides just seeing. They can be used to detect heat in a building on fire so that firemen can pinpoint where people are or they may be fitted with a Gieger counter that can sense radiation where it would be dangerous for a human to go.

With this latest introduction of technology to drones, we may never see them as the same old camera-mounted devices. If things work out as planned, the Eedu team will begin producing drones as early as September and they will be available at a price of just under $450.
