Drone Technology Eyed for Coastal and Industrial Uses

There are many predictions that drones will be everywhere in the future, delivering newspapers, searching for criminals and perhaps even lending a eye in the local oilfield.

Research through Nicholls State University’s geomatics program is aimed at attracting future investment from oilfield and coastal industries in unmanned aircraft.

Geomatics is the science of land surveyors, construction surveyors, mappers and planners, and experts in the field believe unmanned aerial vehicles’ capability of flying slower, lower and in more dangerous situations than traditional aircraft will innovate practices in local industries including coastal restoration.
