Indian Drone Leader Targets Agricultural Sector and Strategic Partnerships

Garuda Aerospace, India’s leading drone technology company, has announced its expansion into Sri Lanka, marking a significant step in its global growth strategy. The company aims to leverage its advanced drone technology to enhance farming practices in Sri Lanka while exploring opportunities in homeland security and industrial applications. This move aligns with Garuda Aerospace’s broader plan to operate in at least 50 countries over the next few years, supported by a $10 million investment for international growth.

Garuda Aerospace’s expansion into Sri Lanka is part of a larger vision to capitalize on the country’s strategic location and drone-friendly regulatory environment. The company, which recorded revenues exceeding INR 100 crores in FY2024, has earmarked a significant portion of its international growth funds for its Sri Lankan operations, set to begin soon.

Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating, “Our expansion into Sri Lanka marks a meaningful chapter in our journey. Garuda Aerospace has been actively pursuing strategic partnerships to support its global expansion. In early 2024, the company partnered with Spirit Aeronautical Systems S.A., a leading Greek manufacturer specializing in rotary and fixed-wing weaponized drones. Additionally, Garuda Aerospace signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Thales to promote growth and innovation within India’s drone sector. These partnerships underline the company’s dedication to innovation and economic growth through drone technology.

The company’s global expansion efforts are not just about entering new markets but also about driving sustainable growth in the drone and allied sectors. Garuda Aerospace focuses on forming local partnerships and offering specialized sector-specific solutions to achieve this goal.

Achievements and Future Plans

Garuda Aerospace holds the distinction of being India’s first drone company to receive dual approvals from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for manufacturing small and medium-category drones, along with pilot training. The company, which is preparing for its initial public offering (IPO), recently opened India’s first drone-exclusive showroom in Chennai.

Further highlighting its commitment to the agricultural sector, Garuda Aerospace delivered 445 Kisan drones to various fertilizer companies and public sector undertakings as part of the ‘NaMo Drone Didi’ scheme. This initiative underscores the company’s leadership in the adoption of agriculture drones in India.
